The day before the GDC2010 Finals, I was presented with so many responsibilities. Well, not very much actually, but the amount of weight each of them weighed was terribly heavy. The first weakness I have was the inability to speak to strangers or Big-Shots. I just could not bring myself up to speak with them in formal English naturally. Is it a must everyone to possess this ability?
It was also a fact that the Main Director of this Project could not bring his team into action as well, which was another factor that greatly affected the Finals. On the day itself, only the director, emcee, 2 helpers, the President of the Computing Club, and I were the only people helping out. Though the competition finals became a small scale one in the end, I think we were still lack of helpers. I became the only one sweating like hell.
Luckily, the emcee, Karin has a lot of experiences hosting many kind of events, so she could handle the audience very well. I'm amazed by her fast reaction as well.
Before the whole thing started, the Director wanted me to print out the Score Sheet for the Judges. However, it was too last minute, so we could only come out with a shabby looking piece of paper for them... One Big Minus.
During the first Registration Part, we were supposed to distribute the Certificate of Participation to the Participants. But everything was not arranged according to the Groups, so we just have the Participants to find through the whole stack of certs themselves. Another Big Minus.
I was supposed to be the escort for the Judges and the GOH, but most of them just came into the Lecture Theatre by themselves except for the Ubisoft Representatives. And luckily, the Director and the President are nice to help me entertain those Big-Shots.
The Flow of the Game Presentations was not very smooth as not many teams have start up their laptops or worse, I think they don't even know their order of sequence... The team by NUS didn't have a laptop prepared, so they have to use mine. And I'm having Digimon Xros Wars as my wallpaper that time, so everyone could see what was presented on the screen. And there was only a very insidious silence... Moreover, I think the games presented were not much of a standard... Well, according to the Tone by the Judges as they spoke. Thus, they had a very hard time deciding the winner.
Well, finally when everything was over. I could finally relax. But I still have to clear everything because the Director still have the Final of Freshmen Orientation Week to take care of... And the 2 helpers went missing after the end of the competition too... I became so shaggy carrying so many things at a time. I have to carry the things by a short distance at a time... Sigh. And the Director having the intentions to make me his successor. I was also dumbfounded. I hope I would never be involved in this kind of activity...
