The Scars and Their Memories

When I'm stoning while mugging, I would usually stare at my hands. Every stare always brings back memories. I do not really want to recall them but this habit of mine cannot be changed...

There are 2 scars on the opposite side of my right palm. One in the center and one on the left.

The one on the center is a small scar which is caused by a fall and I had a scratch with the rough floor. I had a fall is because I'm practising First Aid Skill during my Basic Military Training (BMT) in Tekong. We are supposed to practise carrying your assigned buddy in case they became unconscious during some emergency. The problem is that you have to like piggyback your buddy with your Big Fieldpack on as well, so the bag caused some hindrance to your movement. I lost balance when attempting to carry my buddy and we both fell as a result. My buddy fell on his butt, but I fell with my right hand touching the ground first... It is because this scar brings back the memory in Tekong, and there are more unhappy incidents occurred to me during that period, so I felt a bit of sad when I happen to look at it...

The one beside it is actually a new scar. A "new member" to my hand just this year. It is a present from my cousin who scratched me during the Chinese New Year 2010 when I disturbed her verbally...

There is a special scar on my right palm. A scar that is not on the surface of the skin, but under the skin. It is still visible though. Or perhaps, you can say is a tatoo?! This scar is actually black in colour. This happened way back when I was Secondary 3. I was fidgeting my mechanical pencil while listening to the class. Suddenly, the pencil fell. I reacted quite fast and grabbed the pencil before it could hit the ground. However, in the process of grabbing the pencil. The sharp tip of the pencil actually came in contact with my palm. The action was too fast, and the pencil pierced into my hand. Yes, the carbon lead actually broken and was found on the wound. I carefully extracted the lead myself, but the lead left some carbon stain inside the wound. You can't really take one eraser and try to erase it right? Washing also proved useless, so when the wound is healed, the carbon is still visible... (Ok, it is quite hard to explain the situation fully with words...)

The last scar on my hand was on my left elbow. This should be the oldest scar I ever had. This happened all the way back to Primary 6. I remembered clearly and it was during the June Holidays when my Form Teacher held remedial classes to prepare for PSLE. The school was quite deserted and the principal was not around at that time. So after the remedial, our class was like having the whole school to ourselves. Our teacher actually suggested playing Hide-and-Seek in the whole block!!! Ok, it would be quite tiring to play in the whole block, so we only restricted ourselves to the 3rd and 4th stories. I was the hider and I hid under a teacher's desk inside one of the classroom. When I heard a scream which was coming from the classroom beside mine, I quickly ran out of the classroom. But I got tripped onto something unknown and fell down with a great thud. As a result, my spectacles got twisted, and my forehead and my elbow was bleeding. Luckily, when the wounds healed, my forehead did not leave any scar. But because of that, my teacher stopped playing such games with us anymore...

There are two more scars on my left knee: One is a result of falling off from a bicycle when practising it. The other one is an embarrassed moment when I fell down flat onto the ground when I was alighting from the bus...

There is one more which lies inside my left nose nostril. It is a gift when I played soccer (Yes, I played soccer at that time, and this incident was one of the reasons why I stopped playing soccer...) during Primary 6 and my classmate and I tackled each other head on while snatching for the ball. In the end, nothing bad happened to him, but I got a heavy nosebleed. That nosebleed left a scar inside my nose when the doctor examined it. From then on, if I caught a heavy flu, the scar would sometimes open and will have another "heavy flow"...

Well, so much about the scars I have. And I realised that most of them bring memories that are quite bad... And will never get hidden deep inside my brain... They really represent the keys that unlock those memories... Sometimes just wish that they would vanish naturally one day.

2nd Anniversary...

Today my Blog turns 2 years old! But things aren't going well for me...

I have taken 4 Mid-Terms this semester, and I have already failed 2 of them so far. And both of them are actually my core modules... The rest are unknown... Today, I also had my last sit-in lab before the practical examination on next Saturday. Franky speaking, the question is very easy. Very Very Very Easy. But my stupid brain just could not come up with the algorithm on time... And is like always the case. Therefore, even I can pass those labs, the marks are not very high. The worse thing is, ALL my peers are able to do that sit-in lab... This is the case where you do not hate that module, but still do badly for it. The feeling is just terrible.

I'm a very stubborn person. I have been sticking to my own studying method for all my academic life so far. It is quite a systematic way in which I will do notes for every chapter that has been taught so as to reinforce the concept. Then, I will proceed on to do the revision by attempting many questions as a practice. However, writing the notes alone takes up a lot of time. Moreover, time is the limiting factor in University (ie. You do not have so much time to study leisurely!!!).

I carried on with that studying for my Mid-Terms this Semester, and particularly paying much attention on my Arts Module (NM2101 Theories of Communications and New Media) since I know my English is totally horrendous. After I have done up my notes, I realised I have no time for practice. And that is actually the most important part for such a module as you need to practise your writing skills. I have not gotten back my result for that module, but I truely believed that I have screwed up for that.

Being too focus on NM2101, I neglected the other core modules, which I believed the reason why I did so badly for the other 2 modules. In fact, I can't understand one of the major questions in my Programming Mid-Terms, which actually carries the most marks, and so I did damn badly for it. As for the Core Maths Module, I was too complacent and as a retribution, I also failed it...

Now, my only hope was the last Mid-Term, but ironically, it was not my core module. Anyway, that module is Japanese Level 1...

After reflecting, guess it is time to revise my Mugging Syllabus. Writing notes does not help anymore. I should just concentrate on the other core modules. Not that I will totally ignore NM2101, but because those 2 need practising as well. Practising is the key factor now in my faculty. Yes, this method should do the trick. However, I'm just worried that there are not enough practice for us since the tutorials are the only revision materials we have. Nevertheless, I shall wish myself All the Best. From now onwards, there is only success and will not tolerate any failure!!!

Just Some Updates.

I was terribly busy with projects lately.

One project had took an unexpected twist. One of my friends in my Orientation Group, Randy was appointed as the Academic Liaison Director during the last semester, and I gladly joined his committee as his sub-committee. In this current Semester, he proposed to start a Game Development Competition which involves participants to programme, write and design their own games. It started off with the intention of having a small competition. However, in the search of finding sponsorship, the sponsors were too interested in the idea and have requested things like media coverage and expected more participants. And now, it has turned into a rather big event. I was assigned as the Head of the Final Presentation. And my job was the easiest initially, but now I have the biggest responsibility to ensure the running of the whole programme smoothly during the last day since we would expect many reporters and big-shots.

Since it has turned into a big event, I thought of having a very nice place for the final day presentation. But I think our budget is only enough for a MPSH, which I thought was quite shabby... But I hope it would work out fine. It would be my first time planning for such a big event... Luckily, it would not eat into our semester. The actual duration will last for 3 months and the final day will be on 6 August, just before my Year 2 Semester 1 starts. Really hope nothing screw up on that day...

I suffered some blows from my another project because it required us to read one of the most difficult essays in the whole wide world. The author included so many profound and sophisticated words in every sentence... Really like those professionals who likes to profess their professionalism. It took me one whole week just to understand 40% of the whole essay... In the end, I think I screwed up my presentation as well, because I have no idea what I'm talking about...

The next blow just occured yesterday when I received one of my mid-term tests. I screwed it up terribly. And I'm like the lowest among my friends... So shameful.

Well, it doesn't matter to me now. Now I would just concentrate playing my new game! In fact, it is not a really new game. It is a remake version of the previous game. Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver Version!!! Now, the graphics and music are enhanced for the Nintendo DS! Japan came up with a marketing strategy that prevents piracy. The game comes with a brand new item called, PokeWalker! It is shaped like a Tamagouchi. You can transfer one pokemon over into the device and level up your pokemon as you take a walk outside! It is actually a pedometer that can measure the number of steps you took. You can also catch pokemon and find items in the device and transfer back into your game! Cool Right! Japanese is always so brainy to come up with creative idea to spur people to buy their products!

I was worried that the English Translation would exclude this special feature. But it came with it!!! I was so happy and went ahead to buy the original game at $58. So, up to now, I have 16 original NDS games in my shelf! Haha. People should support original games if they like them.
