NUS SoC FOW'09 (Day 3 & 4)

Day 3: Freshmen Inauguration Ceremony

2 gyus went MIA.
Ying Cong is a CEG Student, so he went off to another Orientation after the ceremony...

That Monday morning was a ceremony to welcome all the Freshmen to NUS. Strangely, we all have to wear formal clothes to attend the ceremony... We were told to reach LT19 by 7.30am. Russell and I reached on time, most of the others also came shortly. 2 members went MIA, while one more member added into our group. We waited for the other Freshmen and after around an hour a shuttle bus came to fetch us. And that was their assigned timings... Look's like the Organising Committee predicted quite a number of the Freshmen would be late... Okay, Russell, Jing Sheng and I felt quite cheated since we came quite early...

Then, we were given tickets, and the timing written on it was 9am!!! Normally, the timing written on the ticket for such event was usually early by 30 minutes... Or depends on the Arrival of VIP... Ok... Cheated x2...

There were goodies bag placed on every seat for us, and frankly speaking, other than the bag, the things inside it were quite useless... Haha. The whole ceremony was a complete déjà vu... It was like the first day when you entered the National Service. There was National Anthem, and even pledge! NUS Pledge...! The reception prepared for us was not really good... We went to YIH for round 2 of our lunch.

We went back to LT19. But not much things were prepared for us. We have to come out with a group Poster and to work on the costume for Cosplay.

Then, it is the Session 1 of SP. We were brought to Computer Lab and went to the website 'tinychat' to start chatting with mysterious people... My chat room had 4 people, 2 males and 2 females. The chat was rather awkward since most of us did not really have the idea what to chat...

Day 4: NUS Flag Day

It was the annual NUS Flag Day. Early in the morning when I was walking on Simei, on the way to NUS, I have already seen Freshmen all around Singapore... I heard most of the schools, faculties and halls gathered their people early to start the fund-raising activity. Well, for our school, we started later than all other schools, because... we are slack!!! Our group decided on targeting the people in Bugis. Here we come!!!

Yes, there were lots of crowd, especially near the famous temple. We scattered ourselves around that area and began our fund-raising activity. All of the members in my OG were actively asking people for donations. All except me, who have already lost the trust to charity organisations. Of course, after the incident of NKF and Ren Ci, we could not assume that all other such organisations are like them. I still donate some myself, but I would not ask people for donations, I would just stand there.

Here's my Principles of Not Asking People to Donate:
1. I always walk away when people asked me for similar Donations.
2. I see no point to ask people for money, is like forcing them to donate.
3. Yes, people have to the right to reject. But you can't forget there are some soft-hearted people who will do it if you ask them. If they do it, this is also similar to forcing them to donate...
4. People will get irritated since so many of us all around Singapore asking for donations. Especially those who have already donated.
5. By doing this, you can surely see who are those who really give their hearts to donate.

Out of the few people who threw the coins into my can, most of them rejected to take the stickers with them. One auntie even cared about me and asked me to find somewhere where I could find some shade instead of standing under the hot sun. So nice! My GL, Yi Jia came to me and tried to persuade me to ask for donations, but my reasonings made her give up... Haha. We gathered at a spot when it's time and of course, my Tin Can had the lowest amount. But I felt even more happy. Don't know why... Jing Sheng had the most in our group, his can filled almost 3/4!!!

That's not all, all groups were encouraged to record a Freeze Flashmob. A video of the whole group 'freezing' on a random street and captured as much attention as possible. I can't believe my group was so eager to do that... Even Russell!!!
