Are Singaporeans Really Kiasu?

Yesterday, I have encountered 2 incidents that proved Singaporeans are not really that Kiasu...

Case 1: Rushing into a Lecture Theatre

My friends and I were having LSM1301 Lecture at LT25. It was scheduled as a 2-hours lecture. But normally, the lecturer would end the session around 15 minutes early to allow the students to have time to rush for another class. So, at 1.45pm, the lecturer wanted to end his lecture, and he said, "Ok, I shall end here." Instanteously, ok no, I should say immediately as soon as the lecturer finished pronoucing the word "here.", the 4 doors of the Lecture Theatre blasted open and... Crowds of international students came flocking into the theatre!!! Flooding the room instantly!!! (Ok, I shall not say which country they are from... I think is quite obvious to guess...).

I could hear them saying in their own Mother Tongue, "This seat is mine!!!" and those calling their friends, "XXX, Come here!!!"

Russell, Edwin, Lydia, Randy and I were all shocked... We did not know how to react to such crazy situation... People rushing into a LT??? Why on Earth people would do that???

Case 2: SoC Night

My fellow VeNoM group went to attend this event. But not everyone in the group attended...

The registration is free and you stand a chance to win prizes in Lucky Draw, and even the dinner provided is free! Jing Sheng was already complaining that he was hungry when we were going to the venue. However, the event did not start off with dinner. There were couple of talks and a game session. As usual, when the last speaker ended off with, "I think the dinner is ready and I will stop here.", the same thing happened. All the international students stood up immediately and rushing out to get their food. As those people were getting out of room, the last speaker wanted to add a few more words and sought attention from the audience. Those rushing out were ignoring him while the others stayed put and listened to him.

Finally, when we got out of the Seminar Room and got into the queue, we could already see that there was not much food left on the buffet trays... And the international students were happily eating at the way... I was truly shocked... If I am not wrong, some of them actually left the event after they had their free dinner, and before they left, they passed their lucky draw tickets to their friends, hoping that their would help them collect the prizes if they have won...

Singaporeans were defeated hands down...

If I would to attend this event again next year, I would make sure I have my stomach filled first before heading to it... Haha.
