Yesterday was an occassional event for Lisheng and Jayce, because it was their wedding day! He invited me over to his wedding dinner at Meritus Mandarin Hotel. Honestly, it was my first time stepping into the hotel. The service was really great. There are people all over the hotel greeting and serving the guests wherever they go. From the main door to the lift lobby, from the lift to the reception, practically everywhere!
The moment I reached there, I saw Larry, Yong Yee, Andy Sim, Eddie Tan, Daryl, and his batchboys from 98 (Lai Fa), 82 (Simon) and 207, and Lisheng's ex-colleagues. Not to mention, the first thing they would say when they first saw me is to drink with them... So I quickly gulped 2 glasses for them... And I could feel my stomach starting to 'burn'...
Then, I saw Lisheng in the white wedding suit, he looked charming. Haha. I quickly gave him my Angbao and the one from David Ong. The reception counter was filled with people and there were many posters and photos of the wedding couples everywhere. I'm pretty sure they have spent a lot just to hire photographers and making posters, and now to think they have held their dinner in Meritus Mandarin... That would cost a bomb...
The other guests whom I knew that were invited were Yanjie, Derek Koh, Samuel, Wai Keong, Harry, Yong Loong, Nigel Leong, Desmond, Mui Liang.
The dinner they have prepared for us is as follows:
1. Sulking Pig Combination
2. Shark Fin with Crabmeat Soup
3. Prawns with Curry Sauce on Crispy Nest
4. Steamed Grouper
5. Abalone, Mushroom and Spinach with Abalone Sauce
6. Crispy Roasted Duck
7. Meritus Mandarin Signature Hainanese Chicken Rice
8. White Fungus, Longan and Gingko Nuts Drink
We were also given a coaster made of glass to each of us.
It was the first I ever encountered Chicken Rice in a wedding dinner menu. It was really special, and I really enjoyed the meal. Halfway through the course, a mini clip was shown to show us the event happened on that morning: The challenges Lisheng and his gang had to take before they are granted to take the bride with them. They were to pass the food mouth-to-mouth, shaking their butts in front of the girls in a sexy manner, and Lisheng to put on lipstick...etc. The guests were really entertained by the video. Then, it was the Yum Seng session wheere guests are to shout "Yum Seng" 3 three times to their hearts content.
When the dinner was about to end, Larry and the others finally approached our table to take photos with us, and of course more toasts for me to them... And I drank another 3 glasses... I was then dragged to another table with all Lisheng's Batchboys and ex-colleagues... Larry introduced me to them as a well-trained drinker, and they gave me a glass of Grape wine this time, and luckily I was only required to drink half a glass. Then, another glass of beer was given to me out of nowhere and luckily Daryl helped me to drink half of it. I could see Larry drank quite a lot and he was on to the point where he could see stars on his head. However, I heard they were going to have a second round at Clarke Quay. Oh Dear, I wonder how is he going to survive that...
It was rather late after that, and I was managed to take the 2nd last train back home. It was really quite tiring after drinking so many glasses, and my mother complained that I had a bad alcohol stench around me...
