Installing C++ and PHP IDE were the most troublesome thing I have ever done in the holidays. Yup, not much outing for me suring this holiday as I'm really really tight in my budget. Indeed, that is the consequence I have to face for not working in the 3months break holiday. Well, it is also a good thing for me to work on the programming part as I have not been doing any hardcore programming for the semester that has just ended. And that is what I have thought.
Yes, I have made up my mind, and went to the library and borrowed 2 thick books of PHP Programming, gotten an E-book of C+ Programming from Ying Cong . But it turned out a bit useless because I could not figure out the setting for those IDE!!! It looks like I need to link the laptop to the internet for the IDE to have the compiler... And internet access for my laptop from home is impossible... All I have now is using Microsoft Visual Studio to do C++ programming, but it uses Command Prompt to run the code, which I don't really like it... Oh well, just have to stick with it for the time being... So all I have progressed is just a "Hello World!" code...
I have also touched 2 lessons in my Japanese Textbook 2. Haha, or should I put in as "Revised" since I have already done it in the 3 months break.
A bad habit has started to disrupt all of these things mentioned earlier. And that is I have found new games for my NDS! Both of them are mystery solving games, and they are more intriguing than playing PRG game, as you have to follow the plot more closer, and you must not forget what has happened throughout the game to understand the whole story completely. Those are the games that made me forget almost everything as I wish to complete it asap. Well, the good thing for these kind of games is that it only took a few days to complete everything. If you are really hardcore enough, you should be able to finish within 2 days, like reading the thickest book of Harry Potter (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I believed.).
This week there will be lots of Christmas outings... Hope my wallet can survive this "crisis"...

So much after the Exams.
My third semester has finally gone. It was my worst semester so far. Let's hope my future semester will not get any worse than that... The worse part was rushing for numerous assignments and projects, and finally got to have a taste of sleepless nights and even staying overnight in school. The good part was of course getting to know a few more friends. Well, you will always get to know more friends at each semester.
Anyway, I am trying to get my life back since now can enjoy my holidays.
The first one was just a dinner with Shaun, Zhen Ming and Russell, now that we can considered one gang. And it is easier to call each other out since we are all Eastern Settlers: Russell in Simei; Zhen Ming and I in Tampines; Shaun in Pasir Ris. The 3 of them watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 first while I joined then for dinner. After dinner, we just stayed and chatted for a while. But after that, we just strolled and chatted on the way. Zhen Ming and Shaun were so boring, they don't play arcade or whatsoever. Shaun just wanted to go home... He and his comfort zone... Really one spoilt-brat. I have not been getting a lot of contact with Alvin during this semester as he spent most of his time studying at home now. Probably will call him too.
The second one was one outing which was not really an outing as it involved the school! Yes, I went school with Ying Cong on a Saturday morning just to listen to a talk. It was about the module that we will be taking for the next semester: Computer Graphics. The lecturer just talked about the history and not so much in depth, because it will be down into the maths part. He also showed us a few clips Pixar animated clips and game footages such as Street Fighters VI (ST-VI). Nothing much, but at least it gave me an overview of what I will be going to do. We then headed to Clementi for lunch. Ying Cong and I just ate at a hawker centre, bought ourselves KOI, then strolled in CityVibe to finish our drink before taking transport home. Then, when we outside the arcade, I took a look at ST-VI, and I saw one familiar person playing it. And it was the lecturer who gave the talk that morning! He must be loving that game too much. Haha.
The major activity that I engaged in was the Volunteering Service for the Standard Chartered Run 2010. I was approached by Jaclyn before the exams to take part. As the run started very early, we have to report that night 2am. Luckily, there were transport provided. Our roles have been fixed the moment we joined as we are allowed to pick which one we prefer.
We were in the Baggage team. The one in charge of depositing of runners' bags. Our role was very easy, but we have to wait down there for hours before our work starts. We were only taking charge of runners participating for the 10km run, which only starts at 7.30am. Hence, we waited from 3am - 6.30am before the runners started to deposit their bags. The queue was getting longer and longer, and lucky I was the one in charge of ushering. I don't really see many familiar faces, probably most of them went to participate in the 42km and 21km run.
We have a bit of rest while waiting for the runners to finish their race. So we sat down and chatted and got to know a friend, Jia Hao, who just finished his JC1. He took part in the voluntary work for the CIP hours. Well, he could really chat with us, and he already knew quite a lot of stuff in the army. I was quite amazed, considering someone who has not gone through army.
There was another around of peak period when the runners came back to collect their bags. Our job has not ended even the peak period was over, because they will be some slow runners who would take like their own sweet time to walk or stroll. And all of us have to stay and wait for ALL these runners to finish and ALL of them to collect ALL of their bags before ALL of us could really call it a day. However, it also took some time for us to sign out and to collect our gift, which is an exclusive Standard Chartered NETS Flashcard with a value of $22 in the card. Well, not bad for a 12 hours voluntary work and can get paid for $22 dollars. This kind of activity can be fun unless you find a group of friends to do it together. But I would probably take part in the run next time.
The last activity was a KBox session with Luvena and Fang Qi, the day after the SCM2010 (which was today). It was not a great time actually as I was having Sore Throat (still having it when I typing this...), but I just sang it out to strain it even further. Haha. Loss of voice will be expected the next day...

The Curse of Thick-Skinned
As many people, or in fact, everybody should know that Felicia Chin has enrolled to NUS as Year 1 this semester. And some of my friends have been asking me if I have met her in school. Well, she is quite good in hiding because I don't really seen her anywhere except for one fateful day. And I have only seen her once throughout the whole semester... But the setting was very funny.
But before I write anything further. I think there is a need to introduce some background about the Business/Computing Canteen in my school first.
The business in that canteen is turning bad. There are 3 stalls closed down so far after my First Year due to bad business. I understand for the chicken rice stall as the food is really bad. The Wanton Noodle stall also closed down due to bad business too. However, the Yong Tau Foo cum Fish Head Bee Hoon stall also closed down, and I don't really know what happened to that stall as I thought the business is still doing quite well.
The Chicken Rice stall is replaced with Korean Cuisine, which is now doing quite well at the start, but the business is turning bad too... But still surviving as I will still patronized at least once every week.
The Yong Tau Foo is replaced with another Yong Tau Foo stall. And I tried it once, and the experience was pretty bad. The staff was actually short-handed and the stall vendors were having dispute right in front of me... The food quality is not really up there either... And so I foresee this stall will not survive that long. And my prediction was right. But the way how the stall closed down was pretty funny.
It was already 8-9 weeks since the school started. Russell and I were having our lunch in the canteen. Halfway through our meal, I heard the Auntie from the Yong Tau Foo stall shouting across the canteen saying in Mandarin: "Remember to help promote my stall!!!"
Guess who was she speaking to? Yes, none other than Felicia Chin. I could see Felicia Chin was like just purely entertain her to make her happy. Well, I think not only she would do that, I bet other artistes would react the same way.
I was like, WHAT THE HELL, the food is so disgusting and yet she was so thick-skinned and asked Felicia Chin to help...
As expected, the stall closed down the following week. It did not even survive the whole semester...
And this is how I met Felicia Chin.

Meeting Old Acquaintances
There was a sudden period when I met some of my old acquaintances in a few days.
There was one night after getting off the train on my way back home. I saw Angeline Tan, my Primary Schoolmate. Actually, she lives around my neighbourhood, but we just don't bump into each other so often. Rather, it is very rare. Well, luckily she could talk and get into a lot of topics in such a short walk from Simei to Tampines. We finally exchanged our contacts that night.
The next morning, on my way to the school in train. I saw another primary school classmate. I could recognise him straight away, but then again, I didn't call him as I'm afraid there will be an awkward silence when we found ourselves nothing to talk about. However, after a few times of exchanging eye contact, Yong Chye finally recognised me, but we really didn't talk much as he alighted after we chatted for only 2 sentences...
On the same day, I was inside the toilet of COM1 Lobby. And saw yet another Primary school classmate, Jaryl Tok. He was one of few friends who changed a lot in appearance. I just happened to see his photo in Facebook, so I was not really shocked when I saw him in person. But still, he didn't recognise me. And again, I didn't call out to him.
The next day, I was having an early lunch at the newly open Food Junction in my school alone. After I sat down, I saw one of my BMT Platoonmate. Again, I didn't call him just in case he forgets me and made a very awkward scene. But the situation turned out to be unexpected. He sat down beside my table and asked me if I know him. I admitted, and we started to talk about the people we knew in our section. It was another short chat since Wei Ming was together with his friend.
The last case was not really a meeting-in-person kind. It was a random search in Facebook when Zhen Ming and I was talking about him. He locked his profile previously, and now he unlocked it. So I quickly added him. This guy the one I met during RT, Hui Yong. It turns out that he was Zhen Ming's secondary school friend. And after he accepted my request, I browsed through his photo and saw Shaun appeared in one of his photos as well! And it turns out that Shaun was his primary school classmate!!! And then, Shaun and Zhen Ming were JC classmates... This world is damn small. Or rather, Singapore is too small, so in the end, the people you knew just get connected somehow...

走一步，算一步
久久寫一次的部落格。我總會說光陰似箭，時間匆匆地來，匆匆地走。雖然我已經重複很多遍，但我還是喜歡再次強調“歲月不留人”這句話。
像往常一樣，每當學段到了某個階段,我就會窩在學校。每天都會早出晚歸，和家人相處的機會變得很少很少，就連睡覺的時間只是平均每天5-6小時。可是，我就是覺得時間太短，需要做的功課也太多... 很多人就常常抱怨功課壓力太大，我也不例外。但是，就是因為這壓力的關係，我才能在最短的時間完成這麼多事。是有一點的成就感，但也換來身心的疲憊。說到這，我就會覺得人生存在著很多矛盾。
這就是所謂世界上的平衡。無論是東西或事情或工作，都總會有好壞，絕非有任何是十全十美。要付出，才會有代價。但人就是一直在追求完美。或許，這是一個能讓人類不斷地自我提升的推動力。
好了！不要再說任何讓人憂鬱的話題了！煩惱這麼多是沒用的！
我常常這麼告訴自己。走一步，算一步。
可是，我也應不應該是時候想想我畢業之後該走什麼路，然後最好在再畢業之前做好準備？
話說如此，讀了那麼多年的書，我還是沒有確定的方向。目前為止的我，還是一個盲目讀書的人。時不時發一下明星夢，發一下漫畫家夢。我知道我沒像樣的條件，再加上這兩樣在新加坡是沒前途的。人還是要面對現實，所以也沒盲目地向這些方向走。
只剩下兩年多的時間思考了。
還是走一步，算一步好了。 =）
